How Technology Can Ruin Your Love Life
Facebook and social networking
There are many ways that Facebook can harm your relationships. From something as simple as forgetting to update your relationship status from 'single' to 'in a relationship' to something you truly have no control over, like your friends making disrespectful comments about your partner in a message that he or she can see!
There are no magic formulas to stop this happening but try to keep in mind that Facebook may consist of bits and bytes but don't behave differently online just because it's electronic. There are real people with real feelings behind those posts.
Mind you if you are in a relationship and point-blank refuse to update your relationship status that says a lot about your commitment to the relationship and probably something most people would prefer to know sooner rather than later!
Dating sites
Being spotted on a dating site is never good.
Having said that, it's easy to forget which sites you registered on all those months ago, and many of them don't make it easy to remove your profile (it makes them look more popular than they are). The more modern sites will show when you last logged in though, so as long as you aren't actively pursuing other relationships, you'll probably be okay.
If you are looking for someone else, do the decent thing and end your current relationship. It's just good manners.
Email
Sure, it's just bits and bytes but unlike an 'in person' conversation, email can last forever. Add to that the occasional idiots who copy the person they're insulting into the email, or so- called friends who think your exchange is so funny, they forward it to their mates and the next thing you know, your nasty comment about your ex is all over the web and tabloids.
Amazingly this pair manage to not only copy the women they were talking about into their emails, the friend thought that was so funny that the email then went viral! Now that's a special kind of stupid. See article from Daily Telegraph
The best advice is to avoid saying anything by email that you wouldn't say to someone's face.
Mobile Phones
From incriminating texts to sexy photos, to pocket dialling your current partner during an indiscretion, mobile phones can provide hard evidence of your cheating.
If your partner if secretive or too possessive about their phone, that should set the alarm bells off.
Drunk Dialling
More humiliating than anything else, mobile phones just make it so much easier to call or text your ex after a few too many.
My advice is to delete your ex's numbers from your phones. You can always jot down a hard copy of their numbers so that you can still call to arrange visitation for Trevor the goldfish, but it won't be quite as easy to call and make a fool of yourself.
Sex tapes/pictures
It's so much easier today to make a sex tape or take those sexy pictures but remember, that footage or picture not only lasts forever but they can be copied or forwarded so much more easily these days.
One bad break-up and you're an email away from going viral. My advice is don't do it. Ever. Even if it's just for personal use.
But if you really, really must do it, just make sure your face isn't showing or even better, why not freak everyone out and wear a mask!?
